Plainfield High School
Plainfield, IL
Type of Work: Heating and Air Conditioning
Architect/Engineer:
Healy, Bender & Associates
Naperville, IL
Contract Amount: $5.373 million
When District 202 looks for a
contractor to meet the heating and cooling needs of its high schools,
it looks to International Piping Systems. IPS has
designed and installed HVAC systems in all three of the district’s high
schools.
At Plainfield High School, IPS designed and
installed an HVAC system consisting of one absorption chiller, two
screw chillers, two boilers, three cooling towers, 10 air-handling
units, and 13 rooftop units. The job began in June of 2004 and will be
complete in August of 2005.
As with any project of
this magnitude, one of the challenges is in coordinating efforts with
the other trades on the job site. Material handing and site management
is critical, with timely equipment delivery an essential part of the
process.
“The people at IPS
are like members of our own team. They’re always looking out for our
benefit, and they’re not afraid to propose something if they think we
can improve on the efficiency of our systems.
Not only do they lay out all of the options
available, but they’ll also educate us on emerging technologies that
may have been introduced since our last construction
job.
Once our systems are installed, IPS is thorough
with their follow-through. They’re responsive in taking care of our
needs. On the service side, they are great about working around our
schedule, which, for a school district, is critical, because it allows
us to function uninterrupted.”
