This dynamic project involved the complete gutting and renovation of an
existing 4-story warehouse building occupying an entire city block. IPS
installed an HVAC system that featured three screw chillers, four
boilers, three cooling towers, six air-handling units, and 400 Variable
Air Valve (VAV) boxes. In addition, IPS completed a snow-melt system
for the driveway accessing the courthouse’s underground parking. The
job began in June of 2004 and was complete in July of
2005.
What was it like working under
the constraints of an existing building? “It was a
unique project, as we had to figure out how to get complete chillers
into the lower level of an existing building,” says IPS Project Manager
Dean Powrozek. IPS was up to the task, using two cranes - one on each
end of the building - to lower four air handlers down to the lower
level, as well as setting three cooling towers in place on the
roof.
